BMW G650GS: Swapping the Stock Mirrors for TANAX Napoleon Ridge Mirrors

Hello everyone, Boo here.

Today's post is about replacing the side mirrors on my BMW G650GS.
The stock mirrors look good, but in my riding position my arms got in the way, and when changing lanes I had to move my head a little to see behind me in the mirrors, which I found a nuisance.

So I looked at various mirrors and found the TANAX Napoleon Ridge Mirror.
I liked the design, and it was said to give a wider view, so I bought a pair straight away and fitted them.

Two TANAX Napoleon Ridge mirrors (left and right) in their retail packaging.

This is the packaging.

And here they are out of the packaging.

And these are the Napoleon Ridge mirrors.

To make comparison easier, I fitted a stock mirror on one side and a Ridge mirror on the other.

As you can see from the photo, the Ridge mirror sits lower.
However, my stock mirrors have Suzuki rubber mounts fitted to reduce vibration, so the stock mirror on its own would actually be about 2 cm lower.

The tools needed for fitting are a 17 mm spanner and an 8 mm hex key.
To adjust how stiff the mirror's angle adjustment is, you also need a 3 mm hex key (see the photo below).

I only had time to fit the mirrors today, so I'll save the riding impressions for another time.
