With the break-in maintenance officially checked off, today I’m bringing you my real-world 1,000 km riding review of the Honda X-ADV.
In the modern motorcycle landscape, the X-ADV stands alone as a one-of-a-kind adventure maxi-scooter. Packed with cutting-edge technology like Honda's Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and Throttle-By-Wire (electronic throttle control), it is a truly unique machine.

[DCT Evolution] Learning the Rider? How the Shift Feel Transformed Over 1,000 km
As the centerpiece of the X-ADV experience, the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) completely redefined itself between day one and the 1,000 km mark.

1. Upshifting: From High-Gear Anxiety to Predictive Smoothness
Right after delivery, I felt the system was upshifting a bit too early—rapidly clicking into higher gears at low RPMs. Cruising along with the engine chugging at low revs initially had me wondering, "Is this putting unnecessary lugging strain on the engine?"
Now, 1,000 km later, that anxiety is completely gone. The DCT clicks seamlessly into the next gear at the exact microsecond I intuitively expect it to upshift.
2. Downshifting: Engine Braking Matches Natural Riding Rhythm
Regarding downshifts, my initial impression was that I wanted the system to downshift slightly earlier when closing the throttle to provide immediate engine braking.
Today, the moment I roll off the throttle to scrub speed, the DCT executes crisp, rhythmic downshifts right on cue, delivering immediate, highly predictable engine braking.
[Analysis] ECU Adaptive Learning or Muscle Memory?
Does Honda's DCT feature intelligent adaptive control that monitors riding conditions and throttle inputs to adjust its shift mapping? Whether the machine actively learned my riding style or my right hand simply adapted to the X-ADV's powerband remains up for debate.
What I can confirm is that at 1,000 km, the harmony between rider and machine is absolute. It delivers a connected, stress-free sensation that rivals shifting a manual box by hand—without any of the clutch fatigue.
[Surging Acceleration] From a Parallel-Twin Pulse to Effortless Highway Speeds
The real-world acceleration feel is a completely fresh sensation compared to traditional motorcycles.
Twisting the grip from a dead stop engages the 745cc parallel-twin with a satisfying, punchy exhaust pulse ("thump-thump-thump") that hooks up the rear tire with immediate traction. From there, the DCT’s ultra-fast gear changes maintain uninterrupted power delivery, surging forward with deceptive speed.
No matter how skilled a rider is on a standard manual transmission, executing manual clutch work and foot-shifting can never match this level of seamless, uninterrupted drive. You simply open the throttle, and before you know it, you are cruising effortlessly at highway speeds. It is an extraordinarily civilized yet deceptively rapid machine.
[Car-Like Luxury] Fully Automated Lights and TFT Display
Another defining characteristic of the X-ADV after 1,000 km is its car-like refinement and rider-focused comfort.

When plunging into a dark mountain tunnel from bright sunlight, the machine instantly senses the ambient light drop. The headlights automatically switch on, and the 5-inch TFT display seamlessly flips its background to a high-contrast dark mode.
This eliminates visual distraction, allowing you to keep 100% of your focus on the road ahead. By removing small operational burdens while preserving core riding thrills, Honda has created a premium, stress-free cockpit environment reminiscent of a luxury automobile.
[Rider Caution] Ultra-Light Throttle-By-Wire and Bumpy Road Twitching
While the X-ADV is an exceptionally polished machine, 1,000 km of real-world riding revealed one specific control characteristic that prospective buyers should keep in mind.

The X-ADV utilizes Throttle-By-Wire (electronic throttle control) rather than a traditional mechanical cable setup. With zero mechanical drag, the throttle action is incredibly light, completely eliminating right-hand fatigue on long-distance tours.
However, this ultra-light operation introduces a minor blind spot.
When tracking over sharp bumps or rough tarmac, road impacts can cause your body or right wrist to bounce slightly. Because throttle rotation is so effortless, it can sensitively pick up those microscopic wrist twitches, toggling the throttle on and off by a millimeter. This can induce a slight bucking or pitching motion in the chassis.
Thankfully, because the X-ADV boasts a low center of gravity and incredible low-speed stability, you can easily smooth out this pitching on rough roads by relaxing your right grip slightly and keeping a steady wrist.
